New Teaching Block

Wonersh & Shamley Green School

The construction of a new teaching block which enabled the school to expand from an infant school into an infant and junior school.

The new block comprised offices, toilet facilities and six classrooms. A large decking and canopy was constructed at the rear of the building with steps down to the playing field. In addition, there was a new car park and road configuration improving access into and out of the school.

Piled foundations were used to support the timber frame structure, which was then clad with blockwork and finished with a modern render. Slate coverings were used on the roof, which incorporated several automatic roof lights.

Large glulam beams were used to form the large corridor and classrooms, the modern roof design enhances the learning space by providing high ceilings and good acoustics.

The big challenge with this project was the timeframe - just 28 weeks to complete the build in time for the new school term in September - whilst school remained active and operating as normal.

The projected finish date was dully achieved, as was a superb learning environment for the young children of Wonersh and Shamley Green.
